The opportunity
At Coates, safety isn’t just a priority — it’s our way of working. We’re looking for an experienced and proactive HSEQ Business Partner – Solutions to provide hands-on leadership, guidance, and expertise across our Engineering, Traffic, Power & HVAC, and Industrial Solutions businesses.
This is a pivotal role for a safety professional who thrives on building culture, driving compliance, and embedding continuous improvement across complex and dynamic operations.
You’ll partner with leaders and frontline teams to ensure our Safety-First culture is lived every day. You’ll identify and manage critical risks, ensuring robust controls are in place, and championing training, education, and engagement that keeps our people safe.
You’ll lead investigations, support project risk management, oversee HSEQ plans and documentation, and provide strategic advice to drive improvement and compliance across the business.
What you’ll do
- Lead and embed Coates’ Safety-First culture across all Solutions divisions.
- Provide expert HSEQ guidance to operational leaders and project teams.
- Identify and manage critical risks, ensuring key controls are tested and effective.
- Support safe mobilisation and review HSEQ plans for major projects.
- Conduct site visits, audits, and safety walks to maintain visible leadership.
- Lead or contribute to investigations, training programs, and key HSEQ initiatives.
- Build strong relationships with internal teams and external regulators.
What you’ll bring
- Degree in OHS or equivalent (preferred) or other suitable training in OHS
- 5+ years’ experience in HSE leadership across construction, mining, or heavy industry.
- Proven ability to build trust and influence at all levels of an organisation.
- Strong knowledge of risk management, compliance, and safety legislation.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead by example.
- A practical, solutions-focused approach with strong project management capability.
