Job Posting Date:  8 May 2026
Company:  Coates
Position Type:  Permanent Full Time

Here’s how you’ll be a part of our team

  • 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off roster — more time at home than most
  • FIFO from Perth — flights and accommodation fully covered
  • Long-term, stable posting on a major oil and gas operation

Coates is one of Australia’s largest equipment hire companies, and this is one of our most unique postings.

Based permanently on Barrow Island, a Class A nature reserve and the site of one of Australia’s most significant long-term resource operations, you’ll be the mechanic keeping a critical fleet running in a place most people never get to work. It’s remote, it’s meaningful, and it’s yours to own.

As Coates Field Service Mechanic, you’ll support our commitment to delivering safe, dependable and high-performing equipment solutions to a major long-term oil and gas client in a highly regulated environment. This is a sole-charge role with real autonomy and the backing of a national company behind you.

Your duties will include:

  • Maintain and service a fleet including light vehicles, mobile plant, generators, compressors and ancillary site equipment
  • Perform diagnostics, repairs and preventative maintenance
  • Respond to breakdowns in a timely and professional manner
  • Ensure all work aligns with Coates safety and compliance standards
  • Contribute to a positive, One Team culture on site

What you’ll get in return

As a member of the Coates team, you’ll enjoy a range of perks and benefits, including:

  • Above-award remuneration package
  • Flights and accommodation fully provided (FIFO from Perth)
  • Training and career progression pathways
  • Access to our employee discounts and benefits program
  • Purchased additional leave program
  • Employee discounts on equipment hire
  • Novated leasing and salary sacrifice

What you’ll bring to the role

  • Trade Qualified Diesel Mechanic
  • Experience across mobile plant, generators and site equipment.
  • Strong fault-finding capability
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote FIFO environment.
  • Commitment to safety, professionalism and representing Coates on site
  • Motivation, autonomy and pride in delivering quality work
